Term 4 Science and Technology- PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS DETERMINE THEIR USE
This Properties of Materials unit provides opportunities for the students to understand how natural and processed materials have different properties or characteristics and how that affects their use and informs design solutions.
Materials have been and continue to be revolutionised over time. Material scientists have developed materials that are lighter and more durable and flexible which have made living and working in extreme climates more comfortable. As our awareness of the environment grows so too does our desire to live from more sustainably sourced materials.
Through investigations within this unit, students will explore how to test the properties of materials fairly and how to use this gained knowledge wisely when choosing materials to design, produce and test a shelter that offers both shade from the sun and protection from the wind and rain.
